Keywords:

The previous year—2025—marked the centenary of the birth of Luis Cicopiedi, a pioneer among the theater artists of the city of Tandil. This article, based on his life, seeks to trace the origins of the genre in this southeastern part of Buenos Aires province, where theater activity dates back to the 19th century. Cicopiedi, the son of Italian immigrants, grew up in poverty, which prevented him from completing primary school. He expressed his gratitude to the theater, to which he dedicated more than half a century of his life. He affirmed that it was for him “primary school, secondary school, university, and postgraduate studies.” The article also describes various aspects related to the culture and society of Tandil in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
