The mise in space of the story: Golgotha picnic by Rodrigo García, the monologal and the scene as vanitas of capitalism

In Golgotha picnic, Rodrigo García dismantles the theatrical conventions of the dramatic text and the scenic text, in a monologal proposal that we define as the ‘mise in space of the story’. It presents a scenic landscape of interartistic liminality (theater and: literature, visual arts, dance, music, video creation) from a (auto) reflective and (self) referential pronouncement about life, love and death. We analyze here post-avant-garde decisions and procedures, and possible effects of the atomization of the H/story/ies, the crisis in the character, the dialogue and the monologue. We also examined the body-flesh tension in Golgotha picnic, attending to the pictorial representations of the crucifixion, and identifying resonances of the carnage of Latin American art. For the study of the relationship between theater and painting, we take into account the scenic appropriation of plastic genres such as portrait and vanitas, and of procedures such as foreshortening, to configure what we call expanded anamorphosis.
