At the edge of style. Jorge Mañach and the challenges for a theory of art in Cuba

The theory of art is an academic discipline that has had litle development in Latin America and its evolution has been resolved in the import of models alien to the reality of our continent. In this sense, for a theory of art in history and style, Jorge Mañach, examines in this volume, the presence of theoretical and methodological elements that allow to base the contribution of this author to it. The Electivism, the Long Duration and the Theory of the historical circumstantiality of the style are exposed, by virtue of specifying the method used and the historiographical conception that supports its proposal. Sustained by the hermeneutic method, the logic of the theoretical systematization carried out is stated, to reveal the contribution of Jorge Mañach to the theory of art starting from the enunciation of his theory of the historical circumstantiality of the style.References
