Abstract

In this article, we propose to discuss the “crisis of representation” and the dissolution of the author-director couple, arguing that the twentieth century paradigm of “art in two steps” (that is, the author writes a play and the director appropriates it to stage said text) has been replaced in the twenty-first century by making the utopia of Artaud's "one Creator". Based on the increasing emergence of performative shows in contemporary European scene, we examine the dramaturgical implications of this shift for writing, for the actorperformer and the audience.
