The gender problem in Medea

The purpose of the article is to analyse Medea’s character through her actions, a Greek tragedy written by Euripides, questioning the social patterns of gender. It will be discussed the feminine representations and symbols related to it, as the begetter, lovely, submissive and other associations, through the action of a mother killing her children. It will be proposed a non-masculine insight for the character’s analyses and at the same time we intend to drawn a comparison between past and present, putting forward art and history as part of the human repertoire, demanding a critic point of view about the ideologies involved in the play.
