Abstract

This work studies the writings and photographic material on cinematography published in Argentinian magazine Mundo Argentino between 1911 and 1920. During this period, two stages can be settled. In the first one (1911-1917), irregularly, it publishes anonymous news and reviews about certain aspects of this new art and industry (productions, releases, history, technological advances, censorship, morality, etc.) and frames of the films in a regular section between December 1913 and August 1914. In May 1917, an article written by Uruguayan Horacio Quiroga stands out due to his reflections on cinema as an art. In 1918, there is a change in the magazine’s editorial policy and cinematography becomes omnipresent: portraits of American actresses on the covers and two regular sections, one informative and the other photographic.
